My Writing Friends and Colleagues
In addition to the links on my links page, I’d like to introduce you to some of my friends and colleagues.
My Critique Group:
First among my writing friends is my small and intimate and essential-to-my-life critique group.
Shirley Hoskins doesn’t yet have a website, but her wonderful story “A Driftwood’s Tale” appeared in the June, 2006, issue of Cricket magazine. Shirley has a gift for painting a scene, which is not surprising given her talent for drawing.
Kathy Whitehead (www.kathywhitehead.com) has been writing children’s books since her own children were little. Her first picture book, Looking for Uncle Louie on the Fourth of July, was published in 2005 by Boyds Mills Press. Her second picture book, Art From Her Heart: Folk Artist Clementine Hunter, is out in fall, 2008, from G.P. Putnam. She is working on several other picture books and middle grade fiction mysteries.
My Vermont College Buddies:
For two years, I’ve shared a journey of my own with my classmates at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. I have made life-long friends – we call our class the “Thunder Badgers” (you’ll have to read Ursula Le Guin’s Steering the Craft in order to find out why). And the faculty have become my mentors. Earning this MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults is one of the proudest achievements of my life, and one of the most enriching experiences of my writing life.
Class of 2k10:
I’ve joined together with a fine group of debut novelists, the Class of 2k10. I’m proud to be among their number. Come and visit all of us at www.classof2k10.com
